Math Units
Unit 1: Whole Numbers
In this unit, students recognize and read numbers to 10,000. They will be able to write these numbers in three forms as well as compare and order them. Diagrams will be used to show relationships. They will be able to calculate and estimate sums and differences for 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. Students will develop capabilities to mentally do such calculations as well. |
Unit 2: Multiplication and Division
In this unit, students will master the multiplication and division table up to 10. They will learn the relationship between division and multiplication. Students will learn to solve 1-digit by 3-digit multiplication problems and 3-digit by 1-digit division problems. They will pose and solve story problems based on multiplication and division. They will learn some strategies to estimate multiplication and division. |
Unit 3: Patterns and Equations
In this unit, students will identify and describe patterns in tables. They will be able to extend discovered patterns with numbers and figures. They will also be able to use patterns to solve problems. Finally, they will write and solve equations. |
Unit 4: Measurement
In this unit, students learn to read and record time using analog and digital clocks in 12-hour and 24-hour time. Students will be able to solve problems based on elapsed time. They will read and record calendar dates. They will be able to estimate and measure area. Students will also be able to construct rectangles for a given area. |
